LINDALE —
The Athens Hornets wrapped up the Lindale tournament with a 1-3 record over the weekend.
In their opening game of the tournament, the Hornets lost to Bullard 4-1 as Travis Takata suffered the loss on the mound.
Takata threw a complete game seven hitter, giving up four runs — all earned with one walk and four strikeouts.
Jesse Taylor had the only hit for the Hornets in the game. He finished 1-for-2 with a walk.
In their second game of the tournament, AHS lost to Sulphur Springs 5-1 in spite of Takata's performance
Takata led the Hornets' offensive threat, as he got on base three times in the game. He singled in the third and fifth innings.
The first inning saw the Hornets score their only run of the day on an RBI single by Clint Sharp.
Morgan Gimler went 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Hornets.
He also took the loss on the mound throwing a complete game. He gave up 10 hits with five runs allowed, four earned while striking out four and walking three batters.
In their third game of the tournament, the Hornets pulled out a 6-5 win over Rusk.
Rusk had nine hits compared with the Hornets' three, but Rusk stranded seven runners on base.
Josh Darden got it done on the rubber on the way to a win.
He allowed three runs over five innings. He struck out three, walked three and surrendered six hits.
The Hornets never surrendered the lead after the third inning, scoring six runs on a groundout by Alex Smith, three singles, and a bases loaded walk.
In their final game of the tournament, Lindale thumped Athens 11-4.
Takata led the way going 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored in the loss.
Athens host the Carrollton Ranchview Wolves tonight at 7 p.m. at Hornet Field in a varsity only contest.
