The Athens Hornets lost a tough game on Tuesday night to the Emory Rains Wildcats 10-4.
The Hornets held a 1-0 lead after the first inning but gave up six runs over the next three innings.
Travis Takata took the loss on the mound going two and a third innings allowing seven hits, six runs — all earned with four walks. He struck out two batters in the game.
Morgan Gimler came on in relief allowing four runs on five hits — two of those runs being earned — with two walks and two strikeouts.
Leading the Hornets at the plate were Garrett Conley with two hits, a triple and two runs scored. Takata went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Adam Stallings went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Athens 7, Decatur 3
PRINCETON — The Hornets wrapped up tournament play March 7-9 with games in the Princeton tournament.
Gimler led the way for the Hornets going 2-for-3 at the plate with a single and a triple.
Josh Darden picked up the win for the Hornets allowing only one run on three hits with two walks. He also struck out three batters in the game.
Takata also went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.
Bridgeport 8, Athens 1
PRINCETON — The Athens Hornets lost their second game of the tournament despite a big day from Lance Funkhouser.
Funkhouser went 2-for-3 at the plate and Gimler went 1-for-3 with a RBI groundout in the sixth inning.
Takata took the loss on the mound as he went five innings, allowing eight runs on seven hits with four walks and five strikeouts.
HSAA 4, Athens 3
PRINCETON — The Hornets gave up two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in their third game of the tournament to the Home School Athletic Association Angels for their second loss of the tournament.
Conley took the loss on the hill with a complete game five hitter allowing three earned runs with one walk and three strikeouts.
Leading the Hornets at the plate were Conley, Gimler, Gabe Gross, Jesse Taylor and Allen Jones with one hit each.
Princeton 6, Athens 2
PRINCETON — In their final game of the tournament, the Hornets gave up four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning against the Panthers.
Gimler took the loss on the hill as he had a complete game five hitter. He allowed six runs — two of them earned — with five strikeouts.
The Hornets defense allowed five errors in the game.
Taylor went 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Clint Sharp, Takata and Jones had one hit each for the Hornets.
Brownsboro JV 9, Mabank JV 7
MABANK — The Brownsboro Bears gold team picked up a big win over Mabank earlier this week.
The Bears' scored runs in every inning of the game as Cory Dodd picked up the win on the mound.
Dodd also had two hits in the game.
Brownsboro JV 9, Mabank JV 2
MABANK — The Brownsboro Bears blue team completed the sweep of Mabank with a big victory on the road.
Brownsboro jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning and never looked back for the win.
Tanner Wilson pitched a complete game with six strikeouts.
Brownsboro 1, Canton 0
BROWNSBORO — The Brownsboro Bearettes needed extra innings to pull out their first District 15-3A win of the season on Tuesday night.
Karli Wilkerson drove in Baylee McCurley in the 12th inning for the victory.
McCurley finished the game with three hits and a double, while Madison Alexander and Shelbie Bagby had two hits each.
The Bearettes will be on the road tonight as they travel to Athens.
The varsity only contest is set for 5 p.m.
