Athens —
The Athens Hornets gave themselves a fighting chance to make it to the Class 4A state playoffs following a 2-1 win over the Whitehouse Wildcats.
With the win, the Hornets are now 6-11-5 overall and 2-6 in district play.
With the win, the Hornets are now tied with the Mabank Panthers and the Chapel Hill Bulldogs at six points each in the standings.

With 11:16 left in the game, Alfredo Vasquez gave the Hornets the lead with a blast past Ray off an assist for the 2-1 lead.
Tempers started to flare late between the two teams due to the uptempo style that both teams were showing on the field.
