HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Tom McVey named new coach at Trinidad ISD

McVey replaces Kevin Ray who is now at Rankin ISD

TRINIDAD — The Trinidad Trojans have a new head football coach in former Covington head coach Tom McVey.

Trinidad superintendent Corey Jenkins told the Athens Daily Review that McVey accepted the position on Friday.

He will be the head football coach and boys coordinator this season.

Jenkins said McVey’s years of experience is what drew him to Trinidad.

“I have known him for a long time and he has put together good programs,” Jenkins said. “I feel like he can take our talent to places and he comes with a pretty outstanding reputation.”

Jenkins said the adjustment for him coming in so late should not be a major problem so late in the offseason.

“He will be able to adjust real quick,” Jenkins said. “He is heading out to coaching school this week and will meet the guys on July 22.”

McVey takes over for Kevin Ray, who is now the head coach at Rankin ISD.
