ATHENS —
Local home schooled baseball player Kenneth Owen is set to begin his collegiate career at Texas Wesleyan University.
Kenneth is a 2010 home school high school graduate who has played baseball throughout junior high and high school with home school athletic organizations in Dallas and Fort Worth. He played junior high baseball with the HSAA Dallas Angels and high school baseball with the Ft. Worth THESA Riders.
During Owen’s senior year, the Riders won the State Home School Baseball Tournament and he was selected to the All Tournament Team. The Riders also participated in the Home School World Series Tournament in Auburndale, Fla., this year, where he was once again selected to the All Tournament Team.
As a senior with the Riders, Owen was the team’s starting shortstop and also saw playing time pitching, with a 4 – 2 record and three saves. Three of the four wins were complete games.
At the close of the season, Owen was recognized as the THESA Rider player of the year, with his 4-2-3 pitching record and 48 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.13. In addition, Owen had 46 hits and 40 RBI for the season with a .404 batting average.
