WILLS POINT — The Athens Hornets improved to 6-3 on the season with an 87-60 win over Sulphur Springs at the Wills Point tournament Thursday.
Kendall Sanders had 27 and Jared Tilly and Zach Basher added 17 each. Jonathon Dora also hit doubles figures with 11 points.
The Hornets led, 16-11, after the first quarter and 39-29 at the half. They erupted for 31 fourth-quarter points to put the game away.
Athens plays Edgewood at 4:30 p.m. today.
In junior varsity action at the Wills Point tournament, the Hornets lost to Forney, 40-37. DeMarcus Mims was the leading scorer for Athens.
The Athens freshman lost to North Lamar, 39-33, also at Wills Point. Javonte Johnson had 15 points and George Hutson and Jessie Durham scored six each.
