AREA HOOPS ROUNDUP: Lady Hornets knock off 1A No. 7 Martins Mill, 80-79
MARTINS MILL — The Athens Lady Hornets improved to 6-6 on the season with a thrilling 80-79 win over Martins Mill Tuesday night.
Martins Mill, the No. 7-ranked team in Class 1A, fell to 4-2 on the season.
Alex Furr tied her season high with 48 points. She was joined in double figures by Chelsea Crayton with 14 and Nicole Graham, who had 11. Demi Cumby pitched in six points. Amber Coby had two points.
The Lady Hornets outscored the Lady Mustangs, 22-9, in the first quarter and led 37-29 at the half. Martins Mill put on a major rally in the fourth quarter by scoring 30 points.
The Lady Mustangs were led by Emily Williams, who had 25 points.
Athens retuns to action today through Saturday at the Wills Point tournament.

Henderson 34
HENDERSON — Hillary Shaffer and Yaniqua Mosley had 11 points each to pace the Bearettes in their big win over the Henderson Lady Lions.
Brownsboro (6-1) led at the half, 36-17.
Chelsea Chambers had three three-pointers for the Bearettes. They begin play today at the Lindale Hoop Heaven tournament.
Malakoff 46,
Cross Roads 42
CROSS ROADS — The Malakoff Lady Tigers outscored the Ladycats, 17-2, in the second quarter to propel themselves to a win Tuesday night.
Courtney Dawson paced the Lady Tigers (6-2) with 17 points. Rayvonna Garner had 10.
Cross Roads (2-3) was led by Chelsea Pryor, who had 15.

Crandall 42
BROWNSBORO — Ryan Owens had 19 points, including three three-pointers, to lead the Bears over the Pirates in Tuesday night action.
Brownsboro (3-0) trailed, 10-7, after the first quarter but rallied to take a 20-17 halftime lead.
Jacob McCarthy had 14 points for the Bears.
Brownsboro returns to action today against Prosper at the Van tournament.
Malakoff 69,
Rains 61
EMORY — Cornelius Richardson had 23 points and Vanoid Dawson finished with 18 to lead the Malakoff Tigers (2-0) to a win over the Rains Wildcats.
Malakoff jumped out to a 24-7 lead after the first quarter and didn’t look back.

EUSTACE — The Bulldogs got 12 from Blake Hammonds in a loss to the Wildcats Tuesday. Scurry rallied in the second half to get the win.
