Kaufman —
Thirty-two teams from across the region are battling it out this weekend for the girls and boys title at the Kaufman Holiday Tournament.
The tournament kicked off at 9 a.m. this morning with three games. Games are held in the Kaufman high school, middle school and old gymnasium.
The first day of the tournament will consist of 25 games.
A handful of area teams are in the tournament as District 15-3A rivals Athens Lady Hornets, the Canton Lady Eagles and the Mabank Lady Panthers will get their first look at each other in the girls bracket.
On the boys side, the Athens Hornets (10-8) and the Kemp Yellowjackets will represent Henderson County.
Athens opened the tournament on Thursday at 9 a.m. against the host Kaufman Lions in the old gymnasium. They will return to action at 3 p.m. against the Forney Jackrabbits in the old gymnasium.
The Athens Lady Hornets will open their tournament play on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. against North Garland. A win would advance the Lady Hornets to a 7:30 p.m. meeting against the winner of Thursday’s Kaufman-Mabank winner. A loss would send the Lady Hornets to a 9 a.m. Friday morning game against the loser of that game.
