GRAND SALINE — Saturday was a tough day for both of the Athens Hornets baseball and the Lady Hornets softball teams in Grand Saline.
The Hornets (21-8-1) lost the tiebreaker game to the Mabank Panthers 4-3 in the 10th inning.
Athens and Mabank wrapped up the regular season as the Co-District champions at 8-2 to force the one game playoff for playoff seeding next week.
Athens will be the No. 2-seed in the playoffs, while the Panthers will go in as the No. 1-seed.
The Hornets lost the game in the 10th inning on a balk call as Mabank had a runner on third. Pearson Johannesen came in to score on the play.
Adam Stallings took the loss for the Hornets in relief of starter Josh Darden.
Stallings went 3 2/3 innings, allowing one run on five hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
Darden went six innings, allowing three runs — one earned — on one hit with six strikeouts and four walks.

Bullard 11, Athens 1
The Lady Hornets dropped Game 2 of their best-of-three bi-district series at Grand Saline 11-1 against the Bullard Panthers.
Athens lost Game 1 of the series, 3-1, on Friday night.
With the loss, the Lady Hornets wrap up their season with a 13-12-1 record under first year coach Morgan Harpole.
Athens allowed four runs in the first, three runs in the third, two runs in the fifth and two run in the sixth.
Freshman Kristin House took the loss for the Lady Hornets. She allowed 11 runs in 5 2/3 innings, walked four and struck out one.
The lone run of the game for the Lady Hornets came in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Haley Durden that scored Sarah Red.
