AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Cross Roads track sends nine to regional meet

CROSS ROADS — The Cross Roads Bobcats and Lady Cats have nine athletes competing in the regional track meet today in Palestine.

For the Lady Cats, Rebecca Kramer is competing in the shot put, while Chelsi Peyrefitte is competing in the 400-meters and the mile relay.

Calley Cole is also competing in the 400-meters and the mile relay. Teammates Laura Waldo and Cynai Wilson will join Peyrefitte and Cole in the mile relay.

In the 1,600-meters, Shayla Casteneda will be running in the event.

For the Bobcats, Randy Flowers is competing in the high jump, while Hunter Davis is competing in the triple.

John McAteer will be competing in two events in the pole vault and the 110-meter hurdles.

CR Bobcats headed to playoff series

The Cross Roads Bobcats baseball team clinched second place in District 19-A play with a 15-0 win over Neches Tuesday night.

With the win, coach Chris Curran's squad is 13-8 overall and finished 11-3 in district play.

The Bobcats are scheduled to face Beckville in a best-of-three bi-district series Thursday-Saturday, May 1-3 at Mike Carter Field in Tyler.

Curran said this will be a great opportunity for his kids to play Mike Carter.

The first two games of the series will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, while Game 3 if needed, is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday.

MHS sets football homecoming date

Malakoff athletic director Jamie Driskell has released the football homecoming date.

The Tigers will face Palestine Westwood Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at Tigers Stadium.

They will also have Parents night on Nov. 7 against Eustace.

Brownsboro sends six to regional meet

The Brownsboro Bears track team has six athletes competing at the regional meet this weekend.

Lindsey Edwards and Amber Walker are representing the Bearettes, while Cameron Milligan, Deandre Cook, Quentin McKenzie, and Myron Sherfield will represent the Bears.

The regional meet will be held at Texas A&M Commerce.

Below is the schedule for the athletes:

Walker and Edwards - high jump - Saturday, 12:30 p.m.

Milligan - 3200 meters, Friday at 8:35 p.m., 1600 meters, Saturday at 6:05 p.m.

McKenzie - Discus - Friday, 11 a.m.

Cook - 300 meter hurdles, Friday 7:45 p.m. (prelims), Saturday 5:35 p.m. (finals).

Sherfield - 400 meters, Friday at 7:20 p.m. (prelims), Saturday 5:25 p.m. (finals).

Athens sends two athletes to regionals

Travon Fuller and Jada Bowman will represent Athens at the regional track and field meet this week in Commerce.

Fuller is going in the 400 meters, while Bowman is going in the 100 meters.
