ATHENS — Trinity Valley Community College sophomore quarterback Tucker Carter has been named NJCAA Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in last week’s 55-51 win against Navarro College in a regular season finale at Bruce Field.
The 6-3, 215-pound Tucker accounted for seven touchdowns (four passing and three rushing) as the 8-1 Cardinals knocked off the defending national champion Bulldogs. He had 385 all-purpose yards in running his record as a starter to 9-1 (he was 1-0 last year).
Carter, who led Allen to a state championship as a junior in 2008, completed 24 of 37 passes for 336 yards against Navarro.
The win earned the Cardinals the No. 2 seed in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference playoffs and the right to host Navarro in a rematch this week.
The Cardinals also moved to No. 8 in the NJCAA rankings, while Navarro (7-2) slipped to No. 11.
Saturday’s game kicks off at 3 p.m.
