The Athens Christian Preparatory Storm played a spirited game with King’s Academy of Tyler in its first-ever six-man football game but fell in a 68-28 decision Friday at the Cain Park II fields.
ACP went toe-to-toe with King’s — which won a state championship two seasons ago — by scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter. King’s Academy scored four times to take a 27-20 lead heading into the second quarter.
The first-quarter touchdowns were provided by three receiving touchdowns from Jessie Carr. The scores were thrown by Cody Goforth, who completed 21 of 28 passes for 285 yards. Goforth was also intercepted three times to go along with his three touchdown passes.
Will Ogburn scored the Storm’s other touchdown on a six-yard run in the third quarter. Ogburn also made six tackles and had a pair of sacks.
Carr finished his night with nine rushes for 95 yards, while Seth Castillo added nine rushes for 85 yards. Isaac Smith had six rushes for 50 yards.
On the receiving end, Carr had 12 catches for 170 yards while Castillo had four catches for 65 yards.
Other contributors on defense were Ross Stewart, Will Pearce and Josey Robertson.
The Storm returns to action next Friday on the road against Glennview in Fort Worth. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
