AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: CASA 5k race set for this weekend

Athens — Runners will make their way to Henderson County this weekend for the annual CASA of Trinity Valley Superhero 5K run at the Cain Center.

The event is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. with registration, followed by the 5K run starting at 8 a.m.

The Kids K event will start at 8:10 a.m and the adults 1K event will start at 8:20 a.m.

Also, the 4th annual Kids Day, sponsored by the Henderson County District Attorney's Office, will have the Athens Police Department fingerprinting and photographing children for a permanent identification card.

Registration will close at 11:59 p.m on Thursday and the 5K cost $10, the Kids 1K and adult walking 1K event is $5 each.

Walkie Talkers class held at Cain Center

The Cain Center is offering low impact water workouts to help maintain overall health through increasing muscle tone, range of motion and cardiovascular health.

The Lunch Bunch Walkie Talkers class is being led by certified instructor Bethany Airhart on Monday's, Wednesday's and Friday's from noon-to-1 p.m. for those age 18 and over with a desire to get healthy and meet new people.

The monthly fees are $45 for non pass holders and $35 for pass holders.

Creek Crawl run May 18 in Eustace

EUSTACE — The Cain Center's Creek Crawl 5K Mud Run will be held May 18 at the 4PinesRanch in Eustace.

Participants can test their skills against obstacles filled with mud, tarps, ropes, creek beds, tractor tires and more and must be 16 years of age or older.

The cost of the event is $80 per person from now through May 17th with the price rising to $90 per person the day of the race. The price includes a tech shirt, a towel and a bag.

4PinesRanch is located at 14240 RR 2329 in Eustace.

Co-ed volleyball starting May 6

The Cain Center is currently accepting teams for the Co-ed Adult Volleyball league at the Cain Center starting May 6.

The deadline for registration is Wednesday, April 27 at 5 p.m. with a cost of $100 per team.

Teams will play in a round-robin format, with six player teams and a minimum of three women on the court.

The tournament will be a best of three games format or a 45-minute time limit.

Awards will be given for first and second place teams.

Freedom Run May 11 in Murchison

MURCHISON — The second annual 5K Freedom Run is being held at the Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch in Murchison on May 11.

Registration will begin at 7 a.m. with the run/walk to begin at 8 a.m.

The course gives runners a chance to run on gravel roads through open pastures and wooded trails.

Organizers ask that you leave your pets at home as they are not allowed on the property.

Prizes will be given to the first, second and third place winners for men and women only.

The ranch is located at 12526 County Road 3806 in Murchsion.
