AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: AHS senior Enrique Rodriguez named Co-Offensive MVP

Athens — Enrique Rodriguez was the lone superlative selections for the Athens Hornets soccer team on the District 31-4A all-district team.

Rodriguez was selected as the Co-Offensive MVP along with John Tyler senior Luis Duran.

Representing Athens on the first team was junior Jose Martinez and senior Juan Mota. Sophomore Jordy Castaneda and freshman Carlos Nunez were selected to the second team.

Honorable mention selections for the Hornets were Alexis Beltran, Raul De La Fuente and Jonathan Marron.

Mabank had three players recognized as junior Jose Gallegos and senior Preston Hale received first-team honors, while junior Steven Gallegos was recognized on the second team.

BHS sports banquet set for May 13

The Brownsboro Bears athletic program will recognize their student athletes with their annual sports banquet next month.

As reported on the school’s website, the athletic banquet is set for May 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Rock Hill Baptist Church.

Athletic bash set for May 22 at Malakoff

Malakoff ISD will be hosting an athletic bash in place of the banquet this year.

The district will host the athletic bash for all athletes on May 22 at the football field.

The event will last from 4-to-6:30 p.m.

It will be a fun filled time of music, games, a dunking booth, etc. for all athletes to enjoy.

TVCC spring game set for May 3

The spring football game for the Cardinals has been set for May 3 at Bruce Field.

The game will wrap up spring drills for the football team before the Cardinals get ready to defend their title starting in August.

TVCC finished the season with a fifth place rank in the national polls. They also finished the year with a 10-2 record as the Heart of Texas bowl champs.
