FRIDAY NIGHT FLASHBACK: Eustace runs wild in 45-0 win over Kemp

KEMP — The Eustace Bulldogs rushed for 579 yards and welcomed back running back Tyler Folsom in a 45-0 win over the heavy-hearted Kemp Yellowjackets Friday night in the District 7-2A opener.

Prior to the game, the Yellowjackets held a moment of silence for two students killed in a weekend crash — Daryl Gower and Joe Godina. To honor the two students and a third who was injured, Eustace High School presented Kemp with a tree and a check to be presented to the families of the deceased.

The Yellowjackets were looking to break a 15-game losing streak dating back to the end of the 2010 season. They fell to 0-5 with the loss.

Eustace snapped a two-game losing streak and is now 2-3 on the season and 1-0 in district play.

Eustace jumped out to an early 10-0 lead as Jalen Seahorn blasted his way for a 16-yard touchdown early in the first quarter. Kyle Purselley later booted a 26-yard field goal with 2:13 remaining in the opening quarter.

Eustace put the game away in the second quarter as Nathan Denson pounded his way in from 2 yards out, followed by a 20-yard scamper from Folsom — playing his first game since being injured in the season-opener against Canton.

With 6:16 remaining in the third quarter, Seahorn scored his second touchdown of the game from 11 yards out. Purselley booted his fourth PAT for a 31-0 lead.

Folsom continued the Bulldogs’ offensive onslaught after the defense held Kemp on downs late in the third quarter. He received the handoff on the next play from quarterback Ryan Brown and barreled his way 49-yards to paydirt with 2:18 remaining.

Bulldogs running back Jesus Barcenas rounded out the scoring blasting his way for 56 yards. Purselley booted the PAT good with 1:49 remaining.

Kemp’s Blake Watkins ran 10 times for 14 yards, while his brother Corey Watkins finished with 14 carries for 19 yards. Jordan Litts led the way with 21 yards on five carries.

Eustace was led by Barcenas with 155 yards on only eight carries. Folsom added 100 yards on five carries and two touchdowns for Eustace.

Eustace hosts Malakoff next week for its homecoming, while Kemp travels to Lone Oak. Both games are scheduled to kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
