The Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals stayed unbeaten Thursday night with a 110-86 win against East Texas Flight at Cardinal Gym.
Second-year coach Kris Baumann’s squad improved to 6-0 going into a showdown tonight at home against 15th-ranked and 4-0 Coffeyville Community College. Game time is 7:30 p.m. after a 5:30 p.m. game between Paris and Ranger in the first game of the Best Western Classic.
Aldonis Foote poured in 20 points to lead the Cardinals. Octavius Ellis, who earlier this week signed with Arizona State, had 15, Patrick Ingram and Malcolm Riley 13 each and Clarence Williams 10.
The Cardinals were up 64-45 at the half.
Saturday, the Cardinals play Ranger at 4 p.m. in the final game of the classic. Coffeyville and Paris play at 2 p.m.
Mabank wins opener over T.K. Gorman
MABANK — The Mabank Panthers swept T.K. Gorman, 61-46, in their season opener on Thursday night.
The Panthers held a 26-22 lead at the half.
Mabank was led in scoring by Mark Foster with 23 points, Parker Johanneson with 18 points, Cody Thompson with nine points, Adam Penix with eight points, Andrew Parry with two points and Dalton Burleson with one point.
In junior varsity action, Mabank won the game, 47-26 in their season opener.
Mark Driskell and Garret Lewis were the leading scorers with 12 points each while Corey Flores added eight for Mabank.
Mabank will return to the court tomorrow morning at the Lindale Eagles.
The freshman are scheduled to begin play at 11 a.m., followed by the junior varsity and varsity.
Lindale girls beat Mabank on Thursday
LINDALE — Mabank coach Ashleigh Weeaks squad lost a non-district contest to Lindale, 77-47, on Thursday night.
Mabank trailed by a score of 22-7 after the first quarter of play. Lindale extended the lead to 41-22 at the intermission.
The Lady Panthers were led in scoring by Meagan Holyfield with 15 points and Brittney Ramon with 13 points.
Madison Holyfield added eight points for Mabank in the loss.
Mabank returns to the court Tuesday night against Spring Hill.
Tip off is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
LaPoynor 2-0 after win over Woden
The LaPoynor Flyers improved to 2-0 on the season with a 49-43 win in the opener of the New Summerfield tournament.
Octavious Crear and Mason Motal led the way with 10 points each, James Jackson added nine points, Colton Clair had eight points, Jacorey Williams added six points.
Keandre Eldridge and Wade Lang scored three points each.
LaPoynor will return to action Tuesday with a four-game contest on the road against T.K. Gorman Tuesday night.
The junior varsity girls contest will begin at 4 p.m., followed by the JV girls, varsity boys and varsity girls contest.
