Teams from Athens, Palestine, Fairfield and Teague looking for berths to state championships

Athens — Teams from Athens, Palestine, Fairfield and Teague will make their way to Coleman Park for the Dixie Youth district tournaments.

Athens has one team playing in the 12 and under division and two teams in the 10 and under division starting this Friday.

Admission to the tournament is $3 per day.

In the 12 and under division, the Athens Maroon team coached by Matt Lehr and the Athens Grey team coached by David Cornelius open the tournament at 7:30 p.m. Friday night.

On Saturday, the Athens Maroon team will take on Palestine at 7:30 p.m.

The Athens Grey returns on Sunday to take on Fairfield at 5:30, while the Maroon team battle Teague at 7:30 p.m.

On Monday, the teams wrap up tournament play as the Maroon team plays Fairfield at 5:30 p.m., while the Grey team plays Palestine at 5:30 p.m.

In the 10 and under district tournament, Athens — coached by Billy Brewer — will play games on Friday through Monday.

Athens opens the tournament on Friday against Teague at 8 p.m.

They will return on Sunday for a game against the Palestine National team at 8 p.m.

On Monday, Athens will return to the field as they battle the Palestine American team at 8 p.m.

In their final game of the district tournament, Athens will take to the field against Fairfield at 6 p.m.

Athens coach Todd Tanner’s 9 and under team will be playing for a state title July 13 in Center.
