DAVE CAMPBELL'S FOOTBALL: Football season on the horizon

Prognosticators predict four county teams will make playoffs

Athens — The road to the 2013 football season is only 71 days away and Dave Campbell’s Magazine has released their predictions for the upcoming season.

Of the eight teams in Henderson County, the magazine has predicted that four teams will be playing at least one more week in the playoffs.

In District 15-3A, head coach Paul Essary’s Athens Hornets are predicted to finish in second place behind the Van Vandals.

The Hornets look to bounce back from an opening round exit to Kilgore last year in the playoffs.

The Brownsboro Bears — behind first year head coach Jason Hooker — are predicted to finish in fourth place in district play.

This year, the top four teams in the district will advance to the Class 3A playoffs.

The other district with playoff implications comes out of District 7-2A, Division I as Malakoff and Eustace are predicted to make the playoffs.

The Tigers — led by coach Jamie Driskell — are predicted to win the district after an area round finish last year.

The Eustace Bulldogs are picked to finish third with Heath Ragle as the new man in charge.

The Bulldogs finished as a bi-district qualifier last year.

The Kemp Yellowjackets are picked to finish in sixth place by the publication.

In District 6-A, Division 1, the Cross Roads Bobcats — following a 2-8 season last year — are predicted to finish just shy of a playoff berth with a fourth place finish.

This season, only three teams qualify for the post season in Class A play.

Rounding out the Henderson County predictions is the Trinidad Trojans out of District 16-six man, Division 1.

With only two teams making the playoffs, Trinidad is picked to finish in third place behind Milford and Calvert.

The 2013 publication is scheduled to hit news stands this Friday, June 21.
