Golfing for a purpose

TVCC seeking teams for annual Foundation tournament May 20

Athens — A few hours out on the course can mean a world of difference.

For a decade, the Trinity Valley Community College Foundation has been hosting an annual golf tournament. The proceeds from the tournament benefit the Foundation’s scholarship fund.

The 10th annual tournament is set for May 20 at Pinnacle Golf and Boat Club.

“This is one of our main fundraising events for the Foundation,” said Mary Nicholson, the college’s vice president of institutional advancement. “In the years since we started this event, we have been able to change hundreds of lives through the work of the Foundation.”

The Foundation provides scholarships to dozens of students each year through both single scholarships and long-term endowed scholarship funds.

“We can’t thank those who are part of this event enough for helping us make it a success for the past nine years,” said Nicholson. “It always awes me to see how dedicated this community is to providing educational opportunities to students.”

Cost of the four-person scramble is $300 team or $75 per individual. The entry fee includes lunch. Individuals not associated with a team can be assigned to a group.

This year’s tournament will feature split tee times. The morning flight will have an 8 a.m. shotgun start and the afternoon flight will have a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m.

Hole sponsorships are also available at $100 per hole.

Entry applications may be picked up at the Office of Institutional Advancement in the administration building on the TVCC campus in Athens.
