JUNIOR COLLEGE FOOTBALL: TVCC Red team wraps up spring game with 38-31 win

ATHENS — The spring portion of the 2013 football practice for the Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals wrapped up with a, 38-31, Red team win in the annual spring game on Saturday.

Head coach Brad Smiley said 17 Division I scouts came out to watch the scrimmage and the kids put in a strong effort.

“I thought it was awesome,” Smiley said. “Anytime you can put 17 Division I scouts on the turf, it makes them move a little faster.”

Trent Morman had a long touchdown catch in the first half of action for the white team as he was able to break free of the Cardinals defense and stride into the end zone untouched for a touchdown.

Smiley said he was impressed with the way the offense played during the game.

“I thought we came a long way on offense especially with a new coordinator coming in right off the bat,” Smiley said. “The tempo was great and I think by the end the offense really came on.”

He said with the experience he has at defense with his linebackers, lineman and corners and safeties, it will be tough figuring who makes fall camp.

“The defense was solid and it showed today with a lot of sacks and big hits,” Smiley said. “We have several players standout. This is the last day we get to evaluate the guys for fall camp with who is in and who is out so the coaching staff has our work cut out for us.”

NOTES: Dallas Cowboys linebacker Anthony Spencer was in attendance and talked with the players. Also in attendance was Josh Hill, the brother of defensive backs coach Micah Hill.
