No. 1 Lady Cards avoid another upset in Brenham with 64-61 win

BRENHAM — The No. 1 Trinity Valley Community College Lady Cardinals nearly fell into a trap here again.

Nearly.

The Lady Cards (22-0, 11-0) got a clutch block from Sha’Kayla Caples in the final seconds of a 64-61 win over the Blinn Lady Buccaneers Wednesday night. TVCC had lost its previous two games in Brenham.

Caples finished with 22 points, six blocks and four steals for TVCC. Keuna Flax had 14 points and eight boards, while Jenea Barrett finished with 10 points.

On the men’s side, the TVCC Cardinals lost control of first place with a 71-65 loss to Lee College in Baytown.

With the loss, TVCC (14-7, 7-3) fell to second place. Paris took sole possession of first with a 62-59 win over Jacksonville.
