HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Brownsboro falls short in home opener, 27-14

The Brownsboro Bears got a pair of late scores but ran out of time in a 27-14 loss to the Crandall Pirates Friday night at Bear Stadium.

Crandall held a 27-0 lead over the Bears until Damien Thompson got the Bears on the board for the first time of the season on a six-yard touchdown run with 6:01 left in the game. Quarterback Jared Bragdon would later hit Chris Davis on a 15-yard touchdown pass with one second left on the clock to round out the scoring for the Bears. Joel Mata was successful on both PATs for Brownsboro.

Bragdon finished 7 for 13 for 65 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Will Bailey also saw time at quarterback, going 1 for 2 for 31 yards.

Crandall piled up 384 yards of offense, including 315 on the ground. Brownsboro finished with 216 yards of offense.

The Bears and first-year head coach Jason Hooker will try to rebound next week when they hit the road to face Trinity Christian in a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
