Athens —
Athens resident and NFL star Terrence McGee was released by the Buffalo Bills on February 13.
McGee holds six records for the Bills during his nine year career with the organization.
Buffalo selected him in the fourth round of the 2003 NFL draft.
“Terrence has been a contributor to the Bills organization for 10 years and we thank him for his efforts on the field and off,” general manager Buddy Nix said in a statement released by the team. “We wish him the best of luck in the future.
McGee was placed on injured reserve with a knee problem in November and has missed 26 games over the past three seasons.
McGee said in a story released on NFL.com that he is looking to get back on the field as soon as possible.
“I’m trying to get my knee back to 100 percent and hopefully find a landing spot somewhere else,” McGee said. “I definitely will not throw in the towel. That’s not even in my brain right now. Hopefully when I get healthy I’ll have a shot at a couple of teams and show what I can do. Once my knee’s all right, I’m all right.”
McGee played 122 games for the Bills with 520 tackles, three sacks and 17 interceptions.
His best season came in 2004 when he recorded 92 tackles, three interceptions and 14 pass defensed.
