Several members of the 2008 Cardinal football team will be moving on to four-year universities in Fall 2009.
This week, players began signing letters of intent. Numerous Cardinals have already signed letters or are expected to sign before the end of February, said Cardinal Head Coach Brad Smiley.
“This is an exciting time for these young men and their families. The opportunity to sign with a four-year university and pursue their bachelors degree is what they came to Trinity Valley for,” said Smiley. “So seeing them choose where they will spend the next two years attending school and playing football is a proud moment for everyone involved in our program.”
Players who have already signed letters or are expected to sign in December are:
• Offensive lineman Zack Spears of Arp – Iowa State University;
• Defensive end Jacob Fincher of Waxahachie – Stephen F. Austin State University;
• Cornerback Tim Hayter of Tyler – Lamar University;
• Quarterback Patrick Cook of Barbers Hill – Northeastern State University;
• Cornerback Brian Johnson of Garland – Northeastern State University;
• Defensive tackle Kingsley Akinwole of Allen – Texas Southern University;
• Defensive lineman Michael Collins of Crockett – Northeastern State University;
• Wide receiver John Turner of Garland – Northeastern State University; and,
• Defensive end Cornelious Rosenbaum of Woodbridge, N.J. – Angelo State University;
Players who have committed already to sign during the February signing period are:
• Safety Malcolm Williams of Grand Prairie – Texas Christian University; and,
• Wide receiver James Cleveland of Baytown – University of Houston.
