FORT SMITH, Ark. — The Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals raised their record to 7-3 Friday and Saturday with a pair of wins in classic action at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith.
Third-year coach Pat Smith’s Cardinals posted a 93-82 win over Southern Shreveport in its opener and closed with a 77-67 win over Missouri State-Western Plains.
The TVCC men are scheduled to be back in action at home Wednesday against Paris Junior College in a Region XIV Conference game. Action begins at 7:30 p.m. after a 5:30 p.m. women’s game.
In the win over Southern Shreveport, the Cardinals pulled away in the second half with a 54-point performance. TVCC was up 39-37 at the half.
Edward Herring led six Cardinals in double figures with 20 points. Phadarius Taylor had 19, Ernest Watson 13, Dexter Ellington 12, Amir Rashid 11 and Derrick Young 10.
Herring also had seven rebounds and Watson had five steals.
The Cardinals also pulled away in the second half against MS-WP after a 29-29 halftime deficit.
Dexter Ellington led the way for TVCC with 20 points. Taylor finished with 13 and Rashid 10.
Watson had 11 rebounds and four steals.
Lady Cards post 1-2 mark in Odessa Classic
The 11th-ranked Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals were 1-2 in the Odessa Classic Thursday-Saturday.
The Lady Cardinals fell to No. 4 Midland and Odessa and defeated Western Texas.
TVCC is 7-5 going into a home game Wednesday versus Paris at 5:30 p.m.
