BULLARD — The Bullard Lady Panthers used a dominant first quarter to fuel a 55-39 win over the Athens Lady Hornets in a District 14-AAA opener Friday night.
Second-year coach Keith Durrett’s AHS squad, which went 10- 0 in 14-AAA last year, saw its season record slip to 14-7. Bullard upped its mark to 18-4.
The Lady Hornets are scheduled to travel Tuesday to Canton. Junior varsity action begins at 4:30 p.m.
Bullard outscored the Lady Hornets 13-2 in the first quarter and led 27-17 at the half. The Lady Panthers outscored AHS 20-16 in the third quarter.
Staci Hankins led the AHS scoring with 16 points. Alex Furr had 11 and Asha Wilson seven.
Danielle Heithoff paced Bullard with 17 points. Hillary Philpott added 13 and Elisa Lee 11.
In the JV game, Bullard was a 60-28 winner.
