WBCA names Bobbitt Player of Year
ATLANTA, Ga. — The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced Tuesday that Trinity Valley Community College’s Shannon Bobbitt has been named the State Farm/WBCA Junior College/Com-munity College (JC/CC) Player of the Year.
The WBCA presents this award annually to the top players in each of the following WBCA collegiate divisions (NCAA Divisions II, III, NAIA and JC/CC) and high school.
“I am delighted to present the 2006 State Farm/WBCA Junior College/Community College Player of the Year to Shannon Bobbitt,” said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. “She has put forth the extra effort to stand out above the rest this season and has certainly succeeded.”
Bobbitt is ranked in the Top 20 of all Junior College/Community College women’s basketball players in assists (#3), averaging almost 8 per game. The 5-4 sophomore guard averaged 18.7 points per game . She shot shooting 84 percent from the free throw line and averaged 42.5 percent outside the arch.
During both the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons, she earned All-Region XIV Conference and All-Revion XIV and was also picked as a NJCAA pre-season All-American this season. Bobbitt also earned Region XIV Tournament MVP this season after her team captured the conference championship.
Off the court, Bobbitt is a liberal arts major and plans to pursue a degree in nursing or physical therapy, after graduating from TVCC and furthering her basketball and educational endeavors.

The State Farm/WBCA Player of the Year Award is selected by the ten-member WBCA Player of the Year Committee, which consists of one WBCA-member coach from each of the nine WBCA JC/CC Regions and the committee chair.
Bobbitt will be formally presented her award at the WBCA Awards Luncheon presented by State Farm and Jostens on Sunday, April 2 at 11:30 a.m. in the Hynes Convention Center Ballroom.
