JUNIOR COLLEGE BASKETBALL: TVCC splits regular season finales on Saturday afternoon

Athens — The No. 1-ranked Trinity Valley Community College Lady Cardinals wrapped up the regular season with a 103-69 win over the Angelina College Lady Roadrunners Saturday afternoon at Cardinal Gym.

With the win, TVCC finished the regular season at 29-1 and 18-0 in Region XIV conference play. They head into the conference tournament Wednesday at 1 p.m. as the No. 1 seed.

For the second straight game, the Lady Cardinals suited up only eight players.

They were led in scoring by Shlonte’ Allen with 29 points, five rebounds and three assists. Adut Bulgak, Leashja Grant and Roddricka Patton had double-doubles for the Lady Cards.

Bulgak finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds, Grant had 13 points and 13 rebounds and Patton finished with 10 points and 10 assists.

Julianne Anchling finished with 10 points and five rebounds and Autummn Williams chipped in 10 points.

Navarro 61, TVCC 55

The No. 8-Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals finished as the No. 2 seed heading into the conference tournament with a 61-55 loss to the Navarro Bulldogs on Saturday in Corsicana.

With the loss, TVCC finished the regular season at 25-5 and 15-4 in Region XIV play. They will open the tournament on Thursday night against the winner of the Lee-Jacksonville contest at 6 p.m.

The tournament will be played at UT-Tyler’s Herrington Patriot Center.

Octavius Ellis was the leading scorer against Navarro with 12 points and seven rebounds, while Aldonis Foote scored 10 points and added four rebounds.

TVCC led 30-27 at the half and were outscored 34-25 in the second half.
