The cinderella season for the Brownsboro Bears ended in the semifinal round with a 57-40 loss to the Frisco Lone Star Rangers at Texas A&M-Commerce Field house.
With the loss, coach Tobin Reid’s Bears end the season with a 21-13 record.
They were the District 15-3A runner up this season behind Athens.
The Bears have pulled off some strong wins during the playoffs with a 47-44 win over Wills Point and won last week in the quarterfinal round 59-55 in overtime against the North Lamar Panthers.
This was the Bears first trip to the regional tournament since 1993.
The Bears were forced to play without the services of Clay McCoy, who suffered a concussion during the playoffs.
Lone Star hit four three’s against Brownsboro in the opening quarter and held a 19-14 lead going into the second quarter.
The second quarter was the turning point in the game as Lone Star outscored them 19-4 for a 38-18 halftime lead.
The Rangers continued to force Brownsboro into mistakes in the second half of play to keep the big lead going into the final period.
The Bears tried everything they could to cut into the deficit, but Lone Star continued to put pressure on the Bears.
Brownsboro was led in scoring by Quentin McKenzie with 14 points, Will Bailey with eight points, Tamrick Pace with six points, Jared Bragdon with five points, Tarius Manning with three points.
Xavier Richardson and Caleb Seale rounded out the scoring for the Bears with two points each.
The defending Class 3A champion Dallas Madison Trojans won the first game of the Class 3A semifinals over Kilgore, 68-47.
