In the playoffs anything can happen, just ask Paris North Lamar.
Considered a favorite coming in, Lamar was stunned by the Brownsboro Bears Tuesday night in Wills Point.
Brownsboro trailed 10-7 after the first period before storming back to win the regional quarterfinal 59-55.
With the win, Brownsboro advances to the Region II tournament Friday night against Lone Star, a Frisco ISD school.
The Lone Star Rangers defeated Decatur 60-50 Tuesday night to set up the 8 p.m. game at Texas A&M Commerce with Brownsboro Friday.
Brownsboro was led by Logan Compton Tuesday with a team-high 16 points. He nailed three, three-pointers while shooting 3-of-4 from the free throw line.
In fact, Brownsboro was solid from the free throw line making 16-of-20 shots. North Lamar was 20-of-27.
Brownsboro rallied to take a 26-21 lead at the half before extending to as much as 10 points in the third.
Leading 44-36 heading into the fourth, the Bears were in control before Lamar took a 55-53 lead with less than 2 minutes to play.
Will Bailey tied the game at 55 with 1:06 to play before Xavier Richardson came up big.
Richardson picked the pocket of Lamar’s point guard and took the ball the distance to give Brownsboro a 57-55 lead with 40 seconds on the clock.
Lamar tried to score quick, but Bailey blocked the shot and was intentionally fouled with 16 seconds left. He knocked down both free throws to ice the game.
Bailey finished the game with 13 points while Richardson had four.
Tamrick Pace had a good game with eight points while Clay McCoy nailed a three as part of five points.
Jared Bragdon scored five points, including a three-pointer.
Rounding out the scoring, Quentin McKenzie had six points and Caleb Seale had two.
