The Athens Review
The Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals had three players named to the first team of the All-Southwest Junior College Football Conference team.
The team was released this past weekend following the conclusion of the conference championship game, in which Navarro College defeated Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, 62-24.
Two Cardinal defenders were first-teamers — sophomores Kewan Alfred and Quincy Russell. Offensive lineman Nykiren Wellington, a sophomore transfer from Texas Christian University, was also named to the first team.
Five more Cardinals were named to the second team — sophomore center Shawn McKinney; freshman linebacker Davonte McMillian; redshirt freshman Josh Scroggins; freshman punter Sam Fowler; and sophomore kicker Saul Martinez.
NEO quarterback Clayton Mitchem was named the conference’s Most Valuable Player. Tyler quarterback Tyrik Rollison was named Offensive Player of the Year, while Kilgore linebacker Charles Woods was named Defensive Player of the Year.
NEO, ranked as high as fourth in the nation this year, led the conference with seven first-team selections.
