TVCC SPORTS ROUNDUP: Cardinal Pride luncheon held Monday at Old West

Athens — The next Cardinal Pride Luncheon is scheduled Monday at Ole’ West Steak House, starting at noon.

The price for the all-you-can-eat buffet lunch is $9.

The event provides boosters, fans, staff and the community the opportunity to hear from our coaches and interact with our athletic staff and athletes.

Volleyball

Lady Cards name five new signees

Coach Tosha Spain has announced five signees:

Victoria Hesson (5-11, RS/S, Porter High School), Alexis Bogiorno (5-5, S, Rains High School), Ashlynn Caldwell (6-2, M, Cypress Creek High School), Lauren Fernandez (6-0, RS, Oak Ridge High School) and Brittney Griffith (5-0, M, Archer City High School).

The Lady Cardinals were 18-12 last year and qualified for the regional tournament for the first time.

The 2013 season will be the fourth year of the program.

Women’s basketball

TVCC hit the road for final time Saturday

The No. 1-ranked Lady Cardinals take to the road for the final time during the regular season Saturday, going to Jacksonville for a 4 p.m. tipoff.

Coach Elena Lovato’s squad is 25-1 on the year and 12-0 in conference. Jacksonville is 13-11 and 6-5 after a 60-50 win against Panola at home Thursday night.

In the first meeting at Cardinal Gym last month, the Lady Cardinals nabbed a 74-53 win against Jacksonville.

The Lady Cardinals are scheduled to be at home next Wednesday against Angelina at 5:30 p.m.

Football

Cards announce two new signees

The TVCC Cardinals have announced two more football signings for the fall.

Ugonna Nwarie (6-3, 220) Mansfield (Timberview) and offensive lineman Cody Hayes (6-6, 260) Fort Worth (Eastern Hills) have joined the team.

Softball

TVCC continues homestand today

TVCC will continue their three-date  homestand today against Grambling State.

The Lady Cardinals will be in doubleheader action at 1 and 3 p.m.

TVCC is also scheduled to be at home Monday against North Central Texas College.

Action starts at 1 p.m. Game 2 will begin at 3 p.m.
