The No. 3-ranked Trinity Valley Community College Lady Cardinals found a way to win the sixth annual Play 4 Kay event 60-35 over the Paris Lady Dragons Wednesday night at Cardinal Gymnasium.
With the win, Coach Elena Lovato’s Lady Cardinals are 21-1 on the season and 8-0 in Region XIV conference play.
This was the 79th win all-time for the Lady Cardinals against Paris in the history of the two teams.
Both teams had a tough start offensively to the game as TVCC’s Roddricka Patton gave them a 10-6 lead on a three-pointer with 11:31 remaining in the opening half.
The Lady Cardinals were able to hold Paris scoreless for nearly six minutes until Voche’ Martin drained one of two free throws to cut the lead to 15-8 with 6:35 remaining in the opening half.
TVCC went into the intermission with a 26-13 lead and then in the second half turned on the pressure to secure the win.
The Lady Cardinals outscored Paris, 34-22, in the final 20 minutes of play.
Paris was able to get to within 11 on a couple of occasions in the second half as Brea Castro-Gambrell drained a jumper with 15 minutes remaining in the game.
TVCC blew the game open by outscoring Paris 9-0 over a four minute stretch for a 49-26 lead with 3:20 remaining in the game.
The Lady Cardinals were led in scoring by Sholonte’ Allen with 13 points, while teammates Patton and Adut Bulgak each scored 10 points in the win.
TVCC travels to Houston on Saturday to face off against the San Jacinto Lady Ravens. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
