MABANK —
The Athens Lady Hornets fell to 1-2 in District 15-3A play with a 55-36 loss to the Mabank Lady Panthers Friday night.
Mabank jumped out to a, 37-12, lead at the intermission and never looked back in improving their district record to 3-0.
Kourtney Holyfield led the way for Mabank with a game-high 27 points, five rebounds and four steals. Teammates Madison and Kaitlyn Holyfield added eight points each for the Lady Panthers.
Athens (8-15) were led in scoring by Demi Cumby with 17 points, four steals and one rebound.
Teammate Cari Aguilera had nine points, 13 rebounds and two steals for the Lady Hornets.
Athens returns home tonight to face the Mineola Lady Yellowjackets. The varsity game is set to tipoff at 6:15 p.m.

AHS goes 0-2-1 in first tournament
KILGORE — The Athens Hornets soccer team wrapped up the Michael Merritt Tournament with a record of 0-2-1 this weekend.
The Hornets lost to the Kilgore Bulldogs 4-0 last Thursday. They returned to the tournament Friday with a 4-1 loss to Tyler Lee.
Alfredo Vasquez scored the goal for the Hornets off an assist from freshman Jordy Castaneda.
On Saturday, the Hornets tied the Paris Wildcats 3-3 as Enrique Rodriguez scored a hat trick.
Bryant Castaneda had an assist in that game.
The Hornets return to tournament action this Thursday facing Center in the opening round of the Palestine Tournament. The game is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.
The Hornets wil then face Mexia Friday at 9 a.m., followed by a 2 p.m. contest against the Corsicana Tigers.
Mabank 3, Kaufman 3
KAUFMAN — The Mabank Lady Panthers soccer team played the Kaufman Lady Lions Friday night to a 3-3 tie.
Lauren Flowers and Savannah Henderson scored the goals for the Lady Panthers.
Mabank travels to Longview tonight to take on the Longview Lady Lobos at 7 p.m.
Mabank debuts in the Lady Hornet Cup Thursday morning at 9:45 a.m. against the Terrell Lady Tigers.
