HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS: Headed to regionals

Three Hornets win District 15-3A titles

VAN — The Athens High School tennis teams compteted in the district meet in Van on April 5th and placed three Hornets to the regional tournament.

The doubles team of Tim and Nolan Whitley advanced with a first place finish, while Derek Davies won the boys singles title.

The Hornets will advance to the regional tournament April 17-18 at Rockwall High School.

The doubles team of Sunil Projapati and Jake Bywaters finished third and were named alternates for the tournament.

As a team, they finished second overall and were named district runner up.

For the Lady Hornets, Leah Eldore finished in fourth place, while teammate Jessica Moore was sixth.

The doubles team of Carlee Andress and Katy Lunceford finished in fourth place.

Boys singles:

Derek Davies — 1st place

Jonathan Bywaters — 6th place

Boys doubles:

Tim Whitley and Nolan Whitley — 1st place

Sunil Proajapati and Jake Bywaters — 3rd place

Girls singles:

Leah Eldore — 4th place

Jessica Moore — 6th place

Girls Doubles:

Carlee Andress and Katy Lunceford — 4th place

Paula Contois and Ally Halbert — 6th place

Mixed doubles:

Megan Hartin and Dylan Cain — 6th place.
