The Athens Review
Garrett Conley had a night he will never forget for the Athens Hornets on Tuesday night at Hornet Field.
Conley gave the Hornets a no-hitter as they shut out the Mabank Panthers 10-0 in District 15-3A play.
With the win, the Hornets are now 16-5-1 and 3-0 in district.
They will head out on the road to Mineola on Friday night with the varsity set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
Conley had seven strikeouts with no walks. He got Parker Johannessen to strike out for the final out of the game.
The Hornets exploded for six runs in the first three innings as A walk by Funkhouser, a two-run single by Taylor, and an RBI single by Mossberger in the first inning opened up the scoring.
After scoring five runs in the first inning, Brandon Boyd scored on an error during the second inning for a 6-0 lead.
Boyd got on base four times in the game as he went 1-for-1 at the plate with three walks and three runs scored.
Athens scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Travis Takata kicked things off with a single, plating Conley.
Boyd then scored on a sacrifice fly by Adam Stallings and Takata scored on a bases loaded walk.
Conley scored the final run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Leading the way for the Hornets was Conley, who went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and a walk.
Jesse Taylor went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored, while Takata went 1-for-2 with one RBI and two runs scored.
Daniel Mossberger finished 1-for-2 with two RBI.
