Eustace Lady Bulldogs ousted in bi-district round, 9-2 by Edgewood

WILLS POINT — The Eustace Lady Bulldogs fought hard but ran into a tough Edgewood Lady Bulldogs softball team as they were ousted, 9-2, in the bi-district round of the Region 2-AA playoffs Monday night.

Coach Dottie Hawthorne’s squad finished as the third seed in District 13-2A play behind Scurry-Rosser and Malakoff.

Edgewood opened up the scoring with three runs in the top of the first inning off Eustace starting pitcher Casey Bramblitt.

Hailey Eason reached base with a single, followed by a walk to Cheyenne Stone.

Kassandra Young then reached on a single to load the bases and Hannah Jameson was called out on the infield fly rule.

On the play, Eason was able to score from third for the 1-0 lead.

Cheyenne Robert then smacked a two RBI single on her seventh pitch at bat to give Edgewood a 3-0 lead.

Eustace cut the lead to, 3-2 in the bottom of the second inning as Abra Roberts led off the inning with a walk, followed by Karen Cawthon reaching on an error by Edgewood third baseman Amanda Thorn.

Following a bunt single by Noa Taylor to load the bases, Madi Allen struck out for the first out of the inning.

Kacie Richards then smacked an RBI single off starting pitcher Rachel Deen to score Roberts and Cawthon came in on the throw for the 3-2 deficit.

Edgewood (24-7) put the game away in the top of the third inning as Eason reached on a single, reached second on an error and went to third on a single by Young to put runners on the corners.

Following an groundout by Jameson, Robert smacked a two RBI single for the 4-2 lead.

Edgewood added one more run on an RBI double by Robert off Bramblitt in the fifth. They also scored three runs in the top of the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Eustace had only six baserunners in the final four and two thirds innings against Deen.

Richards led the way for Eustace going 2-for-4 with an RBI, while teammates Noa Taylor and Madi Allen had the other two hits for the Lady Bulldogs.

Eustace left nine batters on base during the game.

In her final game in the circle, Bramblitt threw a complete game 11-hitter, striking out five and walking two batters in the loss.

Eason and Robert had three hits each for Edgewood as Robert had five RBI in the game.
