HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Postseason march

County teams looking to seal spots as regular season wraps up tonight in baseball action

Athens — The road to the baseball playoffs wraps up tonight with four county teams with the closest race coming in District 15-3A play.

First year coach Dallas Robertson’s Athens Hornets have sealed a playoff spot and hold a one-game lead on Mineola.

The Hornets are 7-2 in district play, while Mineola is 6-3 in district.

AHS will travel to Brownsboro for the Bears’ senior night while Mineola travels to Mabank.

Mabank is currently a game out of third at 4-5, while Canton is 5-4 in district play with the third and final playoff spot.

Brownsboro has been eliminated from playoff contention in District 15-3A.

Eustace Bulldogs’ coach Chris Powers team was eliminated from the playoffs last week after finishing in fourth place at 5-5 — one game out of a tie for second place.

The Malakoff Tigers were also eliminated from the playoffs last week in  District 13-2A play.  

Kemp will be making a trip to the postseason after they finished in a tie for  second place at 6-4 in district with the Scurry-Rosser Wildcats.

The other Henderson County finale pits coach Kody Evans LaPoynor Flyers against the Fruitvale Bobcats.

Tonight’s game wraps up their season after being eliminated for playoff contention.

The Trinidad Trojans wrap up their season tonight against Martin’s Mill, while Cross Roads host Neches.
