The Brownsboro Bears picked up hard fought District 15-3A win Tuesday night with a 3-2 victory over the Van Vandals.
VHS scored one run in the sixth on an RBI double by Jacob Wyrick. Unfortunately, Van wasn't able to take the lead back.
Raul Gutierrez kept contact to a minimum, striking out seven Van batters.
Gutierrez allowed two earned runs on six hits and two walks over seven innings.
The Bears jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning.
Cory Dodds singled to ignite the Brownsboro Bears offense.
An error then moved Dodds from first to third.
The game was never in doubt after the fifth, as Brownsboro scored two runs on an RBI single by Ryan Covington.
Dodds led the way at the plate for the Bears as he went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Teammates Chris Davis, Covington, Miles Spencer and Ramirez recorded hits for the Bears’ in the win.
Wyrick led the Vandals at the plate going 2-for-2 with one RBI. He also had a double and was hit by a pitch.
The Bears played at Canton tonight and will wrap up the first half of District 15-3A play by hosting the Athens Hornets next Friday night.
Both games are scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
