2013 GREAT EAST TEXAS SHOOTOUT: BHS finishes fifth at GETSO with 49-30 win over Van

BROWNSBORO — The Brownsboro Bears wrapped up the Great East Texas Shootout with a fifth place finish on Saturday.

Coach Tobin Reid’s squad defeated district rival Van, 49-30 in the finale.

The Bears held a 25-14 lead at the half and extended the lead to 33-25 after three quarters of play.

Will Bailey scored a game high 18 points for Brownsboro, while teammate Logan Compton added eight points in the win. Quentin McKenzie Clay McCoy added six points each.

Brownsboro is scheduled to host Palestine tonight with the freshman set to tip at 5 p.m.

The next time they will see the Vandals will be on Jan. 10 in the district 15-3A opener.

In the remaining championship day games, Palestine defeated Westwood, 69-63 in the consolation championship, while Crandall defeated Bullard 62-42 in the third place game.

All Saints was the boys champions with a 69-66 win over Sunnyvale.

In girls action, the Brownsboro Bearettes lost to Martins Mill 57-26 in their final game on Saturday.

Brownsboro was led in scoring by Tamaria Manning and Lexie Houston with five points each.

Brownsboro was held to single digit scoring in every quarter on Saturday.

Brownsboro will be at Kaufman tonight with the freshman set to tip at 5 p.m.

In the championship contest, Whitehouse won the consolation title with a 36-33 win over Chapel Hill.

Hebron won the third place contest with a 66-49 win over Texas High, while Georgetown won the championship game over John Tyler, 50-36.
