The Trinity Valley Community College basketball teams headed into the Christmas break with two conference wins during Kid’s Night on Friday night.
In the women’s game, the No. 1-ranked Lady Cardinals beat Kilgore, 75-48, while the No. 16-ranked Cardinals defeated Jacksonville College, 76-54 at Cardinal Gym.
With the win, coach Elena Lovato’s squad is now 12-1 overall and 3-0 in Region XIV conference play. The win marked the Lady Cardinals 50th straight home game.
They will return to the court Jan. 3 at 6 p.m. in the McClennan Community College Classic against Collin County.
They will then play Northeastern Oklahoma A&M on Jan. 4 before returning home on Jan. 8 against Blinn College.
On Friday, the Lady Cards jumped out to a 48-18 lead at the intermission as four of the five starters scored in double figures.
Coco Baker led the team in scoring with 15 points, while Adut Bulgak scored 13 points. Jazmine Spears and Roddricka Patton scored 10 points each in the win.
In men’s action, the Cardinals improved to 14-1 on the year and 4-0 in Region XIV conference play.
TVCC will return to the court on Jan. 4 with a conference game at Lee College.
They will return home on Jan. 8 against Blinn College for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
On Friday, the Cardinals held a 38-19 lead at the half to put the game out of reach for Jacksonville in the second half.
The only loss of the season came against Ranger College in a 52-46 loss at Leon Spencer Court on Nov. 16.
This was the only conference meeting against Jacksonville this season.
