ATHENS — Trinity Valley Community College sophomore defensive back Martez Shabazz has been named Southwest Junior College Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

During last Saturday’s 35-28 win over Tyler, Shabazz broke up two passes, intercepted a pass and recorded seven tackles, including two for losses.

The Cardinals (4-0) also maintained their spot in the NJCAA national football poll, holding steady at No. 9. TVCC hosts Arkansas Baptist Saturday at 3 p.m. for the annual homecoming game.
