LUCAS — The Athens Hornets were rude hosts to Quinlan Ford Tuesday.
Those Panthers came all the way over here, and the host Hornets didn’t give up so much as a hit.
Jack Barkley and Coty Willett combined on a five-inning no-hitter in a 10-0 win at Hornet Field. Athens ran its record to 4-3 on the season.
Barkley threw three perfect innings and struck out six to start the game, and Willet struck out three over the final two innings of work.
“Jack was in total control on the mound,” Athens Head Coach Tony Sikes said. “I told him the day before the game he was coming out after three innings regardless of how well he was doing — even if he was throwing a perfect game.”
Matt Jordan led the Hornets at the plate with two doubles, a single and four runs batted in. Hunter Choate had two doubles, and Willett had two singles.
The Hornets open their Varsity Tournament today at 3:30 p.m., playing the winner of the 11 a.m. Quinlan-Westwood game. Eustace, Brownsboro and Crandall are also in the tournament.
