Area teams getting volleyball seasons under way
EUSTACE — The Athens Lady Hornets, Eustace Lady Bulldogs and Malakoff Lady Tigers are all off to strong starts in high school volleyball action.
Eustace hosted a dual match with Athens and Ennis participating on Tuesday. Athens took three of four matches against Ennis by scores of 25-20, 25-20, 18-25 and 25-20.
“It was a great team effort,” Athens Head Coach Natosha Spain said. “The girls played their hardest, and I could not ask for a better effort.”
Eustace would later sweep Athens by scores of 27-25, 25-21 and 25-14. Eustace also downed Ennis in by scores of 25-8, 25-20, 25-8 and 28-26.
The Lady Hornets and Lady Bulldogs will see each other again starting today as Eustace prepares to host its Varsity Tournament. The tournament lasts through Saturday.
In ninth grade action, Athens beat Ennis and lost to Eustace. In junior varsity play, Athens beat Eustace and lost to Ennis.
Malakoff downs Cross Roads
A pair of old rivals tangled in action Tuesday night, with the Malakoff Lady Tigers handling the Cross Roads Lady ’Cats in three, 25-16, 25-13 and 25-16. The Malakoff JV won by scores of 25-12 and 25-16, and the ninth grade won, 25-21 and 25-19.
