TEXAS A & M COMMERCE SPORTS INFORMATION
The Athens Review
A&M-Commerce freshman forward Savannah Henderson was named Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for this past week as announced by the conference office today. This marks the second straight week that a Lion has earned player of the week honors when Brionna Minde also earned Offensive Player of the Week. The Lions now have three overall weekly honors overall this season.
First time since the weeks of September 28 and October 5 of 2004, Erin de Wolfe and Bailey Geels, have the Lions won back-to-back conference player of the week awards.
Henderson scored both goals in a 2-1 double-overtime win at Eastern New Mexico to extend the Lions winning streak to five at the time. The game-winner in the 101st minute was Henderson's second game-winner of the season when she took a pass from Jade Bell and scored. In a 0-0 tie at West Texas Henderson fired four shots with one on goal. Henderson's nine points leads the Lions and her four goals also leads the team.
Henderson and her Lion teammates take on Angelo State and Midwestern State this weekend at Lion Soccer Field. The match against the Rambelles is scheduled for Friday, October 4 at 7 p.m. and the match versus the Mustangs is set to kick-off at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 6.
