FRIDAY NIGHT FLASHBACK: Malakoff dominates Queen City, 41-14 in bi-district play

EMORY — The Malakoff Tigers jumped out to a fast start and held on for a 41-14 Region II, 2A bi-district win at Wildcat Stadium.

With the win, the Tigers (10-1) will face Van Alstyne at Mesquite's Hanby Stadium Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in the area round.

The two-headed rushing duo of Marcus and Damontes Dowell lived up to the style of offense they have had all season as Damontes Dowell rushed for 126 yards on 13 carries. Marcus Dowell rushed for 130 yards on nine carries.

Damontes Dowell scored the opening touchdown of the game for the Tigers on a 51-yard run with 8:46 remaining in the first quarter.

On the Tigers’ next possession, Marcus bobbed and weaved around the Queen City defense for a 66-yard touchdown run. Omar Gonzalez booted the PAT for a 14-0 lead with 5:57 remaining in the first quarter.

Queen City then capitalized on a 26-yard touchdown strike as quarterback Drew Davenport found an opening with 3:46 remaining in the first quarter. Jimmy Larry booted the PAT for a 14-7 deficit.

Malakoff then scored on a two-play, 60-yard drive with a 50-yard touchdown from Deric Greenhaw to Damontes Dowell with one minute remaining in the opening quarter.

Queen City tried to make a game of it in the second quarter scoring the only touchdown on a Chase Norman eight-yard run 8:02 remaining in the first half for the 21-14 deficit.

The Tigers continued to put on the pressure in the second half outscoring Queen City, 20-0, as Gonzalez nailed a 21 and 43-yard FG to put the game out of reach.

Malakoff also had a 42-yard touchdown run from Greenhaw and a 25-yard touchdown pass from Greenhaw to Jared Givens with 28 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

Malakoff outgained Queen City 452-152 yards of total offense. Greenhaw had an impressive night throwing the ball as he went three-of-five for 109 yards and two touchdowns.

Davenport led Queen City with 19 carries for 86 yards and one touchdown. He also went 4-of-9 passing for 51 yards and one interception.
