It was a perfect weekend for the Lady Cardinal softball and basketball teams.
The Lady Cardinals went 5-0 in the Lamar State-PA tournament to run their season record to 8-4.
In games Friday, the Lady Cardinals defeated Angelina, 7-6; and Mississippi Gulf Coast, 1-0. Saturday, they defeated Baton Rouge, 11-2; Angelina, 11-3; and Lamar State-PA, 9-6.
The Lady Cardinals are scheduled to be at home Wednesday in doubleheader action against Hill College. Action at Cain Park begins at 1 p.m.
The Lady Cardinals will be going after a school record for consecutive wins. The current record is six games in each of the last two seasons.
Friday and Saturday, the Lady Cardinals will participate in tournament action in Weatherford.
The Lady Cardinals raced to a 50th straight conference win Saturday with a 105-53 drilling of Bossier Parish. They led 55-30 at the half.
The win improved the No. 1-ranked and two-time defending national champion Lady Cardinals to 25-1 overall and 14-0 in conference. They own a three-game lead in the conference with four games to go.
They own the head-to-head tiebreaker against both teams that are three games back (Tyler and Blinn).
Shlonte’ Allen led the Lady Cardinals with 25 points. Autummn Williams had 15, LeeLee Grant 14, Sylvia Smith-Gatson 12 and Adult Bulgak 10.
The Lady Cardinals are at home Wednesday against Panola at 5:30 p.m. The game will be webcast by the Cardinal Sports Network.
For a seventh straight year, TVCC is participating in the WBCA’s Play 4Kay initiative on Wednesday, which began as “Think Pink” in 2007.
A win on Wednesday would clinch a 13th straight conference championship. It would be their 22nd conference championship in 23 years.
Also, since the conference champion this year secures one of the region’s two national tournament berths, a win on Wednesday would also secure a 19th national tournament appearance.
It would also represent a seventh straight trip to the national tournament, which would be the longest streak in school history.
The 10th-ranked Cardinals had Saturday off.
The Cardinals are 23-3 on the year and 13-2 in the conference.
They will be at home Wednesday against Panola at 7:30 p.m.
The game will be webcast by the Cardinal Sports Network.
