The No. 9 ranked Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals survived a tough Paris Dragons basketball team Wednesday night at Cardinal Gym for a 75-70 win.
With the win, coach Kris Baumann’s squad is now 20-2 on the season and 10-1 in conference play.
The win snapped a two-way tie for first place with Paris in the North Zone of Region XIV play.
The Cardinals also snapped an eight-game winning streak for the Dragons (16-5, 9-2 in league play).
Paris had to find a way to overcome the ejection of starting guard Trevon Seymore for a pre-game altercation.
Because of the technical, the game started with TVCC receiving two free throws. TVCC jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and a 12-5 start seven and a half minutes into the game.
TVCC was led in scoring by Josh Robinson and Patrick Ingram with 14 points each. Octavius Ellis and Dedrick Basile added 12 points apiece.
Paris was led in scoring by Delvin Dickerson with a game high 25 points.
TVCC is on the road Saturday with a trip to Louisiana to face Bossier Parris at 4 p.m. They will return home on Feb. 4 against the Navarro Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m.
Lady Cards 89, Blinn 66
For the second time this season, the No. 1-ranked Trinity Valley Community College Lady Cardinals thumped the Blinn Lady Bucs in Region 14 play with an 89-66 win in Brenham.
With the win, the Lady Cardinals are now 21-1 on the season and 10-0 in conference. They have won 46 straight conference games.
The Lady Cardinals blasted Blinn with 12 three-pointers, six of them coming from sophomore guard Deborah Meeks. Meeks scored 19 points in the win.
Teammates Jazmine Spears scored 20 points while Adut Bulgak continued her double-double streak with 18 points and 20 rebounds. Shlonte’ Allen — the team’s leading scorer finished the game with 12 points.
TVCC held a 44-33 halftime lead and extended the lead to 20 points in the second half of play.
In the earlier game Jan. 8, the Lady Cardinals won 105-70 at Cardinal Gym.
The Lady Cardinals return to Cardinal Gym this Saturday against the Jacksonville Lady Jaguars. Tip off for the game is set for 2 p.m.
