HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER: AHS soccer falls to 1-4 with 2-1 loss to Kaufman

KAUFMAN — The Athens Hornets soccer team dropped to 1-4 on the season with a 2-1 loss to Kaufman Monday night in non-district action.

The lone goal for Athens was scored by Rene Nunez on an assist by Juan Mota.

AHS returns to the pitch in the Marshall tournament against Chapel Hill at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. AHS beat Chapel Hill 4-0 in Palestine last week.

On Friday, Athens is set to play Tatum at 11:45 a.m., and will return later in the day against Marshall at 5:15 p.m.

In junior varsity action, Athens won by a score of 3-0 over Kaufman.

Tristian Chairez led the Athens attack with two goals, while Orlando Vasquez scored the other goal.

Assists were credited to Jeremy Nunez and Keven Carrillo.

The junior varsity returns to action Jan. 28 against Jacksonville at the Tomato Bowl. The match is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
