The Trinity Valley Community College basketball programs swept Tyler Junior College Saturday afternoon in Region XIV conference action at Cardinal Gym.
In the No. 1-ranked Lady Cardinals win, TVCC (18-1, 6-0) defeated No. 8 Tyler 93-69, while in the men’s game, No. 11 TVCC defeated Tyler 69-48.
The Lady Cardinals return to the court Wednesday night at home against San Jacinto. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
The Cardinals are off on Wednesday and will return to the court on Saturday against Panola. Tip off for that contest is set for 6 p.m.
TVCC 69, TJC 48
The Cardinals jumped out to a 21-9 lead in the first 11 minutes of play and never looked back in their win over TJC.
The Cardinals were led by Arizona State commit Octavius Ellis with 18 points, while Patrick Ingram added 15 points.
TJC cut into a 40-22 halftime deficit with a 11-3 run to start the second half.
Faith Pope scored 11 of his 14 points in second half before turning his ankle and leaving the game.
Lady Cards 93,
TVCC jumped out to a 43-28 lead at the break against the No. 8-ranked team in the nation for their 52nd straight home win and 43rd straight conference win on Saturday.
TVCC started hot as they went on a 7-0 run as Adut Bulgak, Jazmine Spears and Deborah Meeks scored buckets.
The Lady Cardinals were led in scoring by Bulgak with 19 points and 17 rebounds, while Leashja Grant had 18 points, Shlonte’ Allen added 17 points and Spears chipped in 11 points.
